SERVE AND PRESERVE: Ismaili CIVIC Service Project at Houston Freedmen's Town

Ismaili CIVIC is organizing an opportunity to volunteer and learn about in Freedmen’s Town with the Rutherford B. H. Yates Museum. This is a 3-day service project to preservation, restoration and beautification projects for historic sites in Freedman’s Town, in Houston's Fourth Ward District. The service project will include speakers from the local community to discuss contemporary and historical issues of racial justice, community organizing, and preserving Black history.

This opportunity is a great way to learn about histories of Houston, Texas we might not have ever heard before and build partnerships with other communities in Houston.

We are looking for volunteers to attend any or all of the days for the service project. Please list your attendance preferences and your contact information and a member of the project team will be in touch.

Contact Rizwan Ali, [email protected], 979-943-1998 OR Aroosa Ajani, [email protected], 832-630-9496 with any questions.

Volunteers 18 years and older are preferred. Participants can receive documentation for service hours spent for school and organizational service hour requirements. Non-ismaili friends and family are welcome to sign up.
